Privacy policy

Your data, and where it goes.

Tarjuman is a real-time voice translation app for Android. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it goes, and how you control it.

Last updated: October 17, 2026

Summary

  • No account, no servers of oursWe collect no accounts, sell no data and show no ads.
  • On your phoneYour conversation history, settings and key stay on your device, and you can delete them any time.
  • To Google, only to translateAudio, images and text go to Google Gemini only to be translated, and only when you use that feature.

Data the app handles

DataWhat happens to it
Microphone audioSent directly from your device to Google’s Gemini service only during live translation. It is not recorded or stored by the app. With Save usage enabled, only speech is sent, not silence.
ImagesSent to Google Gemini to read and translate the text in them, only when you take or pick a photo in image translation.
Typed or selected textText you type in Translate text, or select in another app through the text-selection menu, is sent to Google Gemini to be translated, or translated on the phone itself with language packs when there is no connection.
Conversation text and translationsShown and stored on your device only. Sent to Google Gemini only if you tap Conversation summary or Summarize the lecture.
Gemini API keyStored on your device only, used to connect to Google’s service, and never included in backups.
Medical emergency cardWhat you enter is stored on your device. Common allergies and conditions are pre-translated inside the app; anything you type yourself is translated on the phone if you downloaded the language pack, otherwise through Google Gemini when you are online.
SettingsStored on your device only.
Technical event logKept on your device. It is never sent anywhere unless you export it and share it yourself. An exported log may include conversation text, so review it before sending.
Translation reportsWhen you report a wrong or offensive translation, the report (the sentence, its translation and your reason) is saved on your device in the event log. It is not sent anywhere automatically.

Offline features

Ready phrases, the country guide and the medical emergency card are built into the app and work on your phone without sending anything.

Language packs for offline translation are downloaded from Google ML Kit when you choose to download them in Settings; translation then runs on the phone. Offline speech uses the text-to-speech engine installed on your phone.

Room mode

Devices connect directly with WebRTC. The public PeerJS server is used only to introduce the devices to each other; after that, audio and the name you enter travel directly between devices in the room. Your room name is optional, and the host approves everyone who asks to join.

Third parties

  • Google (Gemini API): processes audio, images and text to translate them. See the Gemini API terms and the Google Privacy Policy.
  • Google ML Kit: the source of offline translation packs, when you download them.
  • PeerJS: used only to connect devices in a room. Its library is loaded from unpkg.com when you use rooms.
  • GitHub: when you open the app, it reads a small file from the public releases page on GitHub to check for a newer version. Nothing from your conversations or settings is sent; GitHub receives only ordinary connection information (such as your IP address).

Important: on the free Gemini tier, Google may use content to improve its products, and human reviewers may read it. Do not use the free tier for confidential or sensitive conversations.

Permissions

PermissionWhy
MicrophoneTo hear and translate speech.
CameraTo translate text in photos, only when you use that feature.
Internet and network stateTo reach the translation service, and to notice when the connection drops and switch to on-phone translation.
Notifications and background workSo translation keeps running with the screen off, with a visible notification that has a Stop button.

Storage and backup

Everything the app stores lives on your device. App data, including your key and conversations, is excluded from Android’s automatic backup and from device-to-device transfer. If you export a backup yourself from Settings, it is a file that does not include the key, and you decide where to keep it.

Age

The app is intended for users 18 and older, and does not knowingly collect children’s data.

Deleting your data

You can delete conversations in Conversations, or have them deleted automatically after a day, a week or a month in the privacy settings. To delete everything, uninstall the app, or clear its data in your phone settings (Apps → Tarjuman → Storage → Clear data).

Changes to this policy

Any change will be published on this page with a new date.
